KBR Names Byron Bright as COO, Announces Segment Realignment

Byron Bright, currently president of KBR’s Government Solutions U.S. and a five-time Wash100 awardee, will take on the newly created chief operating officer role in May at the Houston-based aerospace and defense contractor.

Business Segment Realignment

KBR said Tuesday it has renamed Government Solutions segment as Mission Technology Solutions, or MTS, as part of a segment realignment effort to advance the company’s strategic direction.

As part of the realignment, KBR will now operate with two business segments: MTS and Sustainable Technology Solutions, or STS, led by Jay Ibrahim.

The company eliminated and integrated its legacy GS International business unit into MTS and STS segments.

“As KBR continues to scale and expand capabilities, we are realigning our portfolio to streamline operations, reduce complexity, and optimize our processes,” said KBR President and CEO Stuart Bradie.

Byron Bright’s COO Responsibilities

As COO, he will oversee the two business segments with STS President Jay Ibrahim reporting to him.

“Byron has demonstrated exceptional leadership in his current role. As COO, he will provide focused operational oversight to ensure that KBR continues to win the right work and deliver value as we execute our strategic initiatives. I am extremely confident in Byron’s ability to consistently deliver results across the enterprise, and I look forward to partnering with him in his new leadership role,” Bradie said.

Bright joined KBR in June 2010 and has held several leadership positions, including vice president of business development and senior VP of operations for U.S. government services.

The U.S. Air Force veteran previously worked at Jacobs Engineering Group, where he supported the government services business.

Other Executive Moves

KBR also announced Bradie’s appointment as chair of the board, effective following the 2025 annual meeting of shareholders.

The chief executive will succeed the retiring Lester Lyles, a retired U.S. Air Force general who has served as chair since 2019 and on the board since 2007.

The company said it will name an independent lead director ahead of the annual meeting.
