The U.S. Navy has awarded Lockheed Martin a potential $11.76 billion contract modification to produce and deliver 145 units of Lot 18 F-35 full-rate production aircraft to the U.S. armed forces and allies.
The Department of Defense said Friday Naval Air Systems Command expects work on the undefinitized, fixed-price incentive award to occur in Texas, California, Florida, New Hampshire, Maryland, Italy, Japan, the U.K. and other locations outside the continental U.S. through June 2027.
Contract Modification’s Scope
The contract modification includes the delivery of 48 F-35A fighter jets for the U.S. Air Force; 16 F-35B aircraft and five F-35C jets for the Marine Corps; 14 F-35C fighter aircraft for the Navy; 15 F-35A aircraft and one F-35B for non-U.S. DOD program partners; and 39 F-35A jets and seven F-35B planes for foreign military sales customers.
Approximately $2 billion in FMS customer funds and $816.3 million in non-U.S. DOD program partner funds will obligated at the time of award.
The U.S. government will fund the Air Force and Navy F-35 production by sourcing $2.5 billion and $2 billion, respectively, from their aircraft procurement budget for fiscal year 2024.
The award also covers tooling support for the final assembly and checkout facilities of Italy and Japan.
In December 2022, Lockheed secured a $1.05 billion contract from the Navy to supply materials and services for 118 units of Lot 18 F-35 fighter jets.
