Charles Young has recently retired as chair of the board at Advanced Technology International, a public-service nonprofit organization specializing in research and development innovation.
The company said Young, who served on the board for 10 years, is officially succeeded as chair by former ATI CEO Chris Van Metre, effective Oct. 29.
Van Metre, who joined the board in 2024, said, “The ATI Board expresses our sincere appreciation to Charlie for his leadership and guidance.”
The former vice president for strategic business planning of aerospace and defense technologies at Oceaneering also serves as a member of the board of directors at Water Mission since 2017. Young previously served as a board director at Global Water Center and Dolphin Scholarship Foundation and as a board advisor at JRC Integrated Systems.
He was also with the U.S. Navy for 36 years, holding various leadership roles including commander of the PCU San Juan, USS San Juan and USS Holland. The retired Navy rear admiral was deputy commander for readiness and training for Submarine Squadron TWO. Furthermore, the veteran submariner served on the USS Ulysses Grant, USS Plunger and USS Sand Lance.
Young was previously a director at the Uniformed Services Benefit Association, and instructor at the Nuclear Power School in Maryland, director of tactical training at the Navy Fleet Ballistic Missile Submarine Training Center and director of the advanced submarine technology office at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency.
“It has been an honor and my pleasure to have been a director on the ATI Board for ten years and witness the remarkable impact ATI has had on the safety and well-being of the nation,” Young said.
