A General Dynamics (NYSE: GD) subsidiary has received two U.S. Navy awards worth approximately $620.6 million combined to continue providing lead yard support services and initial spares for the military branch’s Virginia-class submarines.
Contract Modification for Lead Yard Support
The Department of Defense said Friday a potential $376.8 million contract modification awarded to General Dynamics Electric Boat for lead yard support also covers development studies and design services for the nuclear-powered fast-attack submarines.
Work on the cost-plus-fixed-fee modification will occur in Connecticut, North Carolina, Virginia and Rhode Island through October 2025.
Naval Sea Systems Command will finance the award using the service branch’s fiscal 2024 research, development, test and evaluation funds and shipbuilding and conversion funds for fiscal years 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024.
In October 2023, Electric Boat secured a $967 million contract modification to continue delivering design, development and lead yard support for the submarines.
Undefinitized Order for Initial Spares
The Pentagon said NAVSEA issued the potential $243.8 million undefinitized order under a previously awarded basic ordering agreement.
In addition to initial spares, the cost-plus-fixed-fee order also includes unique parts and specialized material for Virginia-class submarines.
The General Dynamics business will perform work in Groton, Connecticut, through September 2028.
The command will obligate the full contract amount using the Navy’s other procurement funds for fiscal 2024.
