The Potomac Officers Club is hosting its highly-anticipated 2024 Army Summit on June 13, bringing together the country’s top Army officials, defense experts and industry leaders to discuss the Army’s most significant challenges, opportunities, strategies and initiatives.
This annual event serves as a vital platform for government and GovCon executives to collaborate, build closer partnerships and share important insights. Here’s a look at what you can expect from this year’s Army Summit:
2024 Army Summit Keynotes
Doug Bush
The Honorable Doug Bush, assistant secretary of the Army for acquisition, logistics and technology and Army acquisition executive, will kick off the summit with an opening keynote address.
In his keynote speech at last year’s Army Summit, Bush highlighted the progress the Army was making on its Long-Range Hypersonic Weapon. Recently, Bush has spoken about the Army’s involvement in the Pentagon’s Replicator program.
Young Bang
2024 Wash100 Award winner Young Bang serves as the principal deputy assistant secretary of the Army for acquisition, logistics and technology. Following Bush’s opening keynote, Bang will participate in a fireside chat led by Capgemini Government Solutions CEO Dan Ford.
Bang has been a vocal proponent of harnessing artificial intelligence in support of Army initiatives.
Michael Monteleone
The third keynote session of the day will feature Michael Monteleone, director of the Army Futures Command’s assured positioning, navigation and timing/space cross functional team. In his role, Monteleone is responsible for accelerating the delivery of APNT capabilities to warfighters.
Recently, Monteleone revealed that the Army is looking for alternatives to GPS satellites to provide PNT signals across multiple domains. He shared that commercial technologies like quantum sensors and magnetic navigation could be leveraged to support these efforts.
Leonel Garciga
Army CIO Leonel Garciga, a 2024 Wash100 Award recipient, will close out the summit with a fireside chat moderated by Josh Jackson, executive vice president of SAIC’s Army business unit and a fellow 2024 Wash100 awardee.
Garciga stepped into the Army CIO role in June 2023.
2024 Army Summit Panel Discussions
Joint and Combined Integrated Air and Missile Defense in the Face of Evolving Threat Environments
Unmanned aerial systems, hypersonic weapons, cruise missiles and other air and space threats are growing at a rapid pace, putting the joint force and U.S. allies at risk. This panel discussion will cover topics like modernizing integrated air and missile defense capabilities, how to keep pace with evolving threats and more.
The conversation will include Col. Anthony Behrens, senior integrated air and missile defense (IAMD) advisor to the joint program executive for the Guam defense system; Col. Glenn Henke, military deputy director of the Army’s Joint Counter-Small UAS Office (JCO); and Dr. Tom Karako, senior fellow with the International Security Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. The panel will be moderated by Larry Barisciano, senior vice president and business area manager for land systems at Leidos.
Software Development Driving Advancement for Army Missions
Discover the latest software factory practices and how they’re helping drive Army mission success during this panel conversation. Panelists will discuss the future of software development in the Army, integrating software factory best practices to maximize effectiveness and more.
This discussion features Col. Vito Errico, director of the U.S. Army Software Factory; Cpt. Grayson Gordon, senior infrastructure engineer for the U.S. Army Cyber Command; Maj. Michael Krogh, commander of the Army Intelligence and Security Command Operations Support Element and director of cyber solutions development; and moderator Kevin Long, vice president of national security solutions for Highlight Technologies.
How Do We Accelerate Speed of Development to Speed of Decision
The Army must operate with speed in order to remain competitive on the global stage. This conversation will focus on accelerating the speed of modernization, speed of development, speed of training, speed of maneuver and speed of decision.
Clif Basnight, vice president of strategic technologies for Ultra Intelligence & Communications; Dr. Don Reago, director of the Army’s C5ISR Center research and technology integration directorate; Mark Kitz, program executive officer for Command, Control, Communications-Tactical for the Department of the Army; and Nicholaus Saacks, deputy program executive officer for Intelligence, Electronic Warfare and Sensors for the Department of the Army will speak on this panel, and SAIC Chief Technology Officer Bob Ritchie will moderate.
Harnessing Technology for Force Readiness in Multi-domain Environments
What is the Army doing to prepare for the fight of 2030? Join this panel to learn about how technology is providing supplies, data, intelligence and a common operating picture to fight in a unified joint force against our near peer adversaries.
Participants include panelists Rodney Davis, deputy program executive officer for aviation for the U.S. Army; Col. Bettye Dufour, chief of the Army National Guard’s force development division; Dr. Andrew Midzak, strategic research program integrator for the Defense Health Agency; and moderator Lisa Mitnick, Americas portfolio lead at Capgemini.
Accepting Risk in leveraging AI at the Pace of Need
Artificial intelligence is introducing new and emerging risks for government and industry organizations alike. This panel dives into how AI solutions are revolutionizing the pace of delivering effective capabilities to our warfighters, as well as the importance of striking the right balance between leveraging AI capabilities and mitigating the associated risks.
