The Potomac Officers Club has set a date for the return of its renowned Homeland Security Summit. On November 13, the event will once again provide a space for national security leaders to tackle the key challenges and opportunities shaping the field today.
Each year, the annual Homeland Security Summit brings together key national security experts from both the public and private sectors to assess the current state of U.S. homeland security and discuss priorities for the future. Like all POC events, the 2024 Homeland Security Summit will present a lineup of insightful keynote speakers and panelists as well as the opportunity to engage with fellow government contracting industry executives.

2023 Homeland Security Summit Speakers: A Recap
Paul Courtney
Last year’s edition of the Homeland Security Summit featured Paul Courtney, chief procurement officer of the Department of Homeland Security and a 2024 Wash100 Award winner, as the opening keynote speaker. During his remarks, he discussed the department’s strategy for building partnerships with industry to advance DHS goals.
Jody Hardin
Jody Hardin, executive director for planning, program analysis and evaluation at U.S. Customs and Border Protection, delivered the morning keynote address at the event. During her speech, she highlighted several CBP initiatives that have transformed traveler processing methods. One effort she discussed was the agency’s biometric entry-exit mission, which is focused on facial recognition.
Shonnie Lyon
Shonnie Lyon, director of the Office of Biometric Identity Management at DHS, closed out the summit with a keynote speech detailing the ways the department has progressed its biometric capabilities. Some topics he discussed were facial recognition technology and interoperability with other agencies.
Panel Discussions
Along with these keynote speeches, the 2023 Homeland Security Summit featured three panels in which participants discussed a variety of topics, such as the relationship between technology and innovation in national security, acquisition and citizen development.
