“Within the highly competitive landscape of General Dynamics, consistently exceeding expectations is a hallmark of success. As president of General Dynamics Mission Systems, Chris has consistently demonstrated this distinction throughout his two decades and counting with the organization. His collaborative leadership style, combined with his keen understanding of technology and the global landscape, allows him to attract and retain top talent, optimize resource allocation and forge strong alignment among his accomplished executive team. In essence, Brady embodies the core principles of effective leadership,” remarked Jim Garrettson, CEO of Executive Mosaic and founder of the Wash100 Award.
Commenting on his win, Brady said, “This award means a lot to me because I am honored to be recognized among this group of high integrity leaders with the best interests of our country at heart. This year, General Dynamics Mission Systems is touching more platforms and missions than ever, making them smarter and more secure in a challenging world of near-peer threats.”
Brady’s direction of General Dynamics Mission Systems in 2023 has enabled the company to secure significant military contracts, including participation in a U.S. Air Force strategic network terminal system and the U.S. Army’s Prophet Enhanced Detecting System. The subsidiary also obtained certification from the National Security Agency for its TACLANE E-Series data encryptor under his stewardship.
In the past year alone, GDMS landed a potential seven-year, $226.5 million indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity component supply contract with the Air Force. The service branch ordered ultra-high frequency line of sight communications, high-altitude electromagnetic pulse, personal area alerting and radiation-hardened general area alerting technologies for block 1 of the Global Aircrew Strategic Network Terminal System.
Earlier, the company won a five-year, $481.6 million project to perform field and depot maintenance, software support, engineering and logistics services and product integration assistance for the Army’s Prophet Enhanced Detecting System for ground-based military vehicles. GDMS was also tasked to develop technology insertion mechanisms for Prophet Enhanced, which is used by Brigade Combat Teams to receive tactical signal intelligence and data for situational awareness 24/7.
In October, GDMS was certified by the National Security Agency for TACLANE-ES10 (KG-185A), its tactical, high-speed encryptor platform for top-secret government data. The product model, which can encrypt a maximum of 10 gigabytes per second of classified information, became the first of the TACLANE series to gain Layer 2 Ethernet Data Encryption Cryptographic Interoperability Specification. The company is working on securing certification for TACLANE-ES100 (KGV-185B), which can support data rates of up to 100 gigabytes per second, and TACLANE-ES400 (KGV-185C), capable of supporting 400 Gb/s full-duplex throughput.
These projects follow through with GDMS’ awarded contracts in 2022, which led Executive Mosaic to honor Brady in the 2023 Wash100 awards.
Brady presided over GDMS’ Dynamic Connections 2023 cybersecurity conference in April. The event focused on the evolution and modernization of information encryption, and included a product training certification led by the Computing Technology Industry Association.
“Each of us share in this mission to design, build and deliver the products and capabilities needed,” he said during his closing speech. “Events like this week’s DC23 help to keep the collaboration and exploration of solutions moving in the right direction.”
Brady expressed his outlook for the future of space as a warfighting domain in an interview with Executive Mosaic in April. He said there was “a new dawn” coming in the space domain amid rapid commercialization and industry-government partnerships to speed up innovation of technologies, from payloads to satellite constellations. He also endorsed the new acquisition and deployment model adopted by the Space Development Agency.
“They’re deploying much larger networks of low Earth orbiting satellites… and they’re really positioning themselves for a proliferated network that is much less vulnerable because you can take out one, two, three, four satellites and still have a large constellation available to continue to prosecute their mission of gathering intelligence and communicating and whatever else is required,” he commented.
As Executive Mosaic continues its annual tradition of celebrating the most productive and committed leaders in federal procurement, we consider GDMS President Chris Brady as an epitome of corporate governance that the Wash100 award seeks to advocate.
