In July, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced six key priorities for fiscal year 2023: cybersecurity, soft targets and crowded places, intelligence and information sharing, domestic violent extremism, community preparedness and resilience and election security.
Since then, the department has been continuously exploring new ways to approach these challenges. The DHSâ new Information Technology Strategic Plan, which was released in September, represents one way it is embracing evolution. Another key move was the September appointment of Erik Hysen as the departmentâs first-ever chief artificial intelligence officer. At that time, the DHS also shared new policies for AI implementation and risk management.
As DHS goals and strategies transform, so does the homeland security contracting landscape. Shifts in DHS priorities have brought about numerous contract opportunities. Keep reading to learn more about three upcoming DHS contracts advancing the departmentâs objectives, all of which are valued at over $100 million.
Fast Agile Lifecycle for Continuous Verification, Operations and NextGen Contract
Focused on securing IT systems, the Fast Agile Lifecycle for Continuous Verification, Operations and NextGen Contract aims to provide development, security and operations services to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Work performed under the contract will primarily center around the Verification Information System, which allows public and private sector organizations to verify an individualâs eligibility to work in the U.S. and lets federal agencies check the immigration status of a person applying for benefits.
Program Support Services
The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agencyâs Program Support Services contract is designed to help the agency standardize management processes and procedures and streamline operations within its Cyber Security Division, specifically its Mission Engineering organization. This contract covers a wide array of services surrounding administration, financial management, procurement, project management and program planning. The selected contractor will also deliver research and technology review, analysis and assessment for new systems.
Hawaii Contract
Intended to help the Federal Protective Service safeguard locations under its oversight, the Hawaii Contract serves as a vehicle to support the organizationâs Protective Security Officers, who are responsible for access control, screening, safety and security system monitoring and other related tasks. The contractor will be expected to provide management, training, equipment, licenses, pre-employment screenings and additional measures that will improve PSO operations.
