State Department’s Intel CIO Jimmy Hall Shares Top 5 Priorities in New Video Interview

As Chief Information Officer and Director of the Technology and Innovation Office within the Bureau of Intelligence and Research, Jimmy Hall is tasked with leading a host of modernization and innovation efforts at the Department of State.

Hall spoke with Executive Mosaic in an exclusive video interview to share his top priorities as intelligence CIO, shed light on the State Department’s most pressing initiatives and gain insight into the emerging technologies shaping the future of the federal government.

First on Hall’s priority list is moving to a top-secret cloud environment in order to secure sensitive data and provide intelligence to United States diplomats across multiple embassies, camps, stations and posts around the world.

“We’re fully embracing the TS cloud,” Hall said in conversation with Executive Mosaic’s Summer Myatt. “Today, we’re doing a lot of foundational work to move to the cloud.”

The Bureau of Intelligence and Research, often referred to as INR, has already begun the initial stages of its cloud migration. INR signed and released its first cloud strategy as well as an implementation roadmap earlier this year that outlines how the agency will modernize its information technology systems and achieve strategic cloud objectives.

Hall’s other priorities include broadening top-secret/sensitive compartmented information connectivity, strengthening cybersecurity, improving the user experience and investing in the workforce.
