Jennifer Hay Appointed Director of Defense Digital Service

Jennifer Hay was named director of Defense Digital Service within the Chief Data and Artificial Intelligence Office of the Department of Defense, replacing Jinyoung Englund who held the post in an acting capacity.

Hay, a visiting fellow with the National Security Institute, joined DDS in January as its principal deputy. Now, she will lead the rapid response team of engineers, data scientists, product managers and designers who utilize private-sector tools and approaches to deliver innovative technology to DOD.

Her career also includes time working as head of global government relations at DataRobot and as deputy director for intelligence and security programs within the Office of Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence.

In the same social media announcement of Hay’s appointment, DDS shared that Englund is transitioning to the role of chief strategy officer for algorithmic warfare in CDAO.

She was with DDS for over three years, initially serving as a digital service expert and then transitioning as its chief of staff and interim principal director.
