As the global defense landscape shifts, the U.S. Department of Defense must adapt its strategies, tactics and priorities accordingly. Executive Mosaic spoke with Airbus U.S. Space and Defense Chairman and CEO Rob Geckle in a new video interview to get a better understanding of the trends shaping the future of defense and how they’re impacting the GovCon industry.
According to Geckle, a 2023 Wash100 Award winner, one of the most significant trends influencing the defense landscape is “a shift — a rapid thrust — to peer and near-peer warfare and deterrence [and] data centric warfare.”
“You’ll hear expressions like JADC2, which is Joint All-Domain Command and Control. The concept of moving massive amounts of data, synthesizing that data across multiple domains and across multiple domains within the Department of Defense is a huge priority for the DOD,” Geckle told Executive Mosaic’s Summer Myatt.
Other major thrusts Geckle identified are the DOD’s efforts to “incentivize commercial companies and allied partners to bring their technologies to problem statements” within the Pentagon, as well as “allied integrated defense and interoperability.” Within these key themes, Geckle said Airbus U.S. is well-positioned to address challenges and add value to DOD missions.
“In this new environment, this new landscape, as you mentioned, we’re now able to bring additional technologies, given our portfolio of technology development,” Geckle said, highlighting the company’s ability to deliver small satellites, laser comms and space equipment to U.S. government customers.
