DOE Releases Draft Solicitation for Fermilab Management & Operations Contract

The Department of Energy is seeking industry feedback on a draft request for proposals for its competition to identify a management and operating contractor for the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in Batavia, Illinois.

DOE plans to solicit services to support research facilities and major scientific user facilities, manage scientific programs and ensure the safety and health of workers at the federally funded research and development center focused on particle physics research, according to a notice posted Thursday on SAM.gov.

FNAL has an annual budget of approximately $614 million and employs over 2,000 personnel specializing in high-energy particle physics research. The single-purpose laboratory was established in 1967 and funded primarily by DOE’s Office of Science.

The department is scheduled to host a virtual presolicitation conference on Aug. 1 and will accept all comments on the draft RPF until Aug. 21.

DOE anticipates awarding the new Fermilab M&O contract on or before Sept. 30, 2024.

The selected contractor is expected to assume full responsibility for FNAL operations beginning on January 1, 2025.
