Salesforce’s Mike Mulcahy: A&D Companies Should Look at Newer Technologies to Help Address Staffing Shortfall

Mike Mulcahy, a digital transformation and strategy development leader for global public-sector aerospace and government system integrators at Salesforce (NYSE: CRM), said the talent shortage in the aerospace and defense industry reflects the need for the industry to keep up with technological developments.

“The loss of talent is only the symptom. The deeper problem is modernizing an industry that has not kept pace with technical innovation in areas as diverse as as program management, supply chain management, human resources, and maintenance, repair and overhaul,” Mulcahy wrote in an article published on Carahsoft’s website.

When managing A&D programs, leaders should know and understand the pain points facing their employees and educate stakeholders on how new technology platforms could help address long-term issues.

Mulcahy said major A&D companies are fielding chatbots and artificial intelligence-driven tools and that these tech transformation initiatives should be brought to the attention of industry leaders who are “willing to take a chance on something new.”

He discussed how a unified platform could provide an organization with a “single source of truth for all data.”

“With a user-centric supply chain, the platform delivered an integrated ‘system of record’ across the entire organization. Its consolidated reporting pushed data insights to the sales and service communities and improved communication between partners and suppliers,” Mulcahy noted.
