Fincantieri’s U.S. arm has secured a potential $526 million contract modification from the U.S. Navy to construct the fourth Constellation-class guided-missile frigate FFG 65.
Fincantieri Marinette Marine will also provide crew training and post-delivery availability support under the contract, the company said Friday.
In April 2020, the Navy awarded the company a potential 15-year, $5.57B contract that includes the lead ship and options for nine additional frigates.
The contractor will perform work in Wisconsin, New Jersey, Illinois, Pennsylvania, New York, Ohio, North Carolina, Maryland and Georgia through December 2028, the Department of Defense said Thursday.
FMM received contract options for the second Constellation-class frigate FFG 63 in May 2021 and the third frigate FFG 64 in June 2022.
The company’s Constellation-class frigate is based on the FREMM frigate platform and comes with multimission capability to perform anti-submarine warfare, electronic warfare, air and surface warfare and information operations.
FMM kicked off construction work on the first frigate USS Constellation in August 2022 through its shipyard in Marinette, Wisconsin, and is set to deliver the ship in 2026.

FMM also supports the Navy’s Littoral Combat Ships program and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Multi-Mission Surface Combatants program under a foreign military sales agreement.
