Raytheon Technologies‘ (NYSE: RTX) missiles and defense business will engineer the combat system of the U.S. Navy’s Zumwalt-class guided missile destroyers under a one-year, $308.5 million contract option.
The funds will also cover miscellaneous items and travel activities that support work on the fleet’s mission systems and equipment, the Department of Defense said Wednesday.
Raytheon Missiles & Defense is the prime integrator of electronic and combat technologies under the DDG 1000 program.
The unit was awarded a five-year, $1.68 billion contract in April 2022 to activate, sustain and modernize the Zumwalt Combat System.
Naval Sea Systems Command will use the service branch’s fiscal 2023 operations and maintenance; shipbuilding and conversion; research, development, test and evaluation; and other procurement funds on the exercised option.
