Executive Mosaic is honored to announce Andy Green, an executive vice president of HII and president of the HII Mission Technologies division, as a recipient of the 2023 Wash100 Award for his leadership in driving strategic growth through major contract awards and advancing innovation aligned with national defense priorities.

In March 2022, HII changed the name of its Technical Solutions division to Mission Technologies following a series of acquisitions and the expansion of its national security capabilities.

HII Mission Technologies, which is based in McLean, Virginia, now operates with six business operating groups: command, control, computers, communications, cybersecurity, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance; cyber, electronic warfare and space; unmanned systems; live, virtual, constructive solutions; fleet sustainment; and nuclear and environmental services.
The division booked several task orders in 2022, including a potential five-year, $826 million task order to provide decisive mission actions and technology services to the Department of Defense; potential five-year, $127 million task order to research, develop, test and evaluate emerging technologies for the Defense Security Cooperation Agency; a potential six-year, $79 million task order from the U.S. Air Force to provide LVC training capabilities in support of the Mobility Air Force Distributed Mission Operations.
“Advancing U.S. national security is HII’s highest priority,” Green said of the $826 million task order. “We are proud to partner with the Department of Defense and its mission partners to deliver critical integrated technology services to counter and deter current and emerging global threats.”
In June, HII Mission Technologies demonstrated coordinated operations of manned and unmanned maritime vehicles as part of an internal research and development initiative meant to advance mission-critical technology platforms to support national security clients.
The launch and recovery demonstration held on June 8 in the Pascagoula River in Mississippi involved the use of HII’s Pharos prototype platform and the HII-built Proteus large-diameter unmanned underwater vehicle.
Green said the demonstration reflects how the company can use the expertise across business divisions to build novel platforms for customers.
“HII is focused on growing critical enabling technologies, like unmanned systems and AI/ML data analytics, to help further enhance the capabilities of our national security platforms,” he added.
Under Green’s leadership, HII Mission Technologies saw its third-quarter revenue rise 51 percent to $595 million due to a higher volume of work in defense and federal solutions areas related to the acquisition of Alion Science and Technology.
Chris Kastner, president and CEO of HII, told analysts during the earnings call in November that Mission Technologies’ pipeline remains robust with $4 billion in proposal or evaluation, $17 billion in capture and a Q3 book-to-bill ratio of 2.2.
“In summary, I am confident that our presence across all the combatant commands coupled with an increasing demand signal for advanced technology solutions from our DoD customers positions mission technology as well going into FY ’23,” Kastner said during the call.
Since 2016, Green has been leading the division, which has expanded its technical service offerings and capabilities in target markets through a string of acquisitions.
He joined HII in 2011 and has held senior leadership roles, including corporate VP of strategy and corporate development and VP of component manufacturing. His industry career included time at Celanese, Wells Fargo Securities and Eaton.
Green serves on the boards of Titan Acquisition, The Entwistle Co. and the Professional Services Council.
