Michael Donley, director of administration and management at the Department of Defense, has created the information management and technology directorate within the office of the DOD secretary and appointed Danielle Metz, most recently deputy DOD chief information officer for the information enterprise, to lead the directorate.
Metz’s appointment came after Kathleen Hicks, deputy secretary of DOD and a 2022 Wash100 Award recipient, issued a memo on Sept. 30 designating Donley as the senior official to oversee information management and technology and to serve as the CIO for the office of the secretary of defense as part of efforts to modernize the digital experience within OSD, the Pentagon said Thursday.
As director of IM&T, Metz will support Donley in his role as CIO for OSD and oversee information enterprise modernization efforts for the office’s components.
Her office will develop a framework to integrate information technology activities across OSD components, come up with an IT resource requirements baseline and develop a standardized memorandum of agreement for shared service support between OSD and the Joint Service Provider.
According to the memo, Donley’s office should submit within 60 days an implementation plan outlining the key actions to facilitate the execution of an improved IT enterprise within OSD.
