Fortem Executive Chairman Jon Gruen Adds CEO Role

Jon Gruen, executive chairman of Fortem Technologies, has assumed additional duties as CEO of the Pleasant Groves, Utah-based airspace awareness technology developer as part of a strategic reorganization that seeks to address the rising market demand for counter-unmanned aircraft systems support and strengthen the company’s focus on pursuing growth in defense and government markets.

He succeeds Timothy Bean, co-founder of Fortem who transitioned to the position of president and chief operating officer, the company said Thursday.

Matt Ocko, co-founder and managing partner at DCVC and a board member at Fortem, said Gruen’s defense and commercial experience will be key as he leads Fortem’s growth initiatives and expansion in the Washington, D.C. market.

Gruen has over 25 years of leadership experience in the defense industry and the military. He was a business development principal at Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) and a co-founder of a defense innovation management and operations firm.

The U.S. Navy Reserve SEAL captain has supported initiatives to equip and train tactical teams that support special operations globally.
