A Raytheon Technologies (NYSE: RTX) business unit has secured a 10-year, $375 million contract to modernize a satellite-based air navigation system for the Federal Aviation Administration.
Raytheon Intelligence & Space will refresh the technical features of and add a dual frequency operation service to the Wide-Area Augmentation System under the indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract, the company said Wednesday.
The FAA placed $215 million in initial task orders for the WAAS DFO-2 program.
Denis Donohue, president of the surveillance and network systems division at RI&S, noted the company will work to ensure WAAS performance if an ionospheric event happens.
The system was built to help aircraft pilots receive global positioning system data to ensure landing safety and manage en-route navigation.
