The State Department has approved a potential $8.4 billion foreign military sales agreement with the German government for 35 units of F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, missiles, related equipment and program support services.
The NATO ally also asked to purchase F135-PW-100 engines for the conventional take off and landing aircraft, AIM-120C-8 advanced medium range air-to-air missiles, tail kits, Identification Friend or Foe equipment, several munitions and other components and spare and repair parts for the F-35 program, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Thursday.
The requested equipment and support services will be used to replace the retiring Tornado aircraft fleet that Germany employs to support NATO’s nuclear sharing mission. Overall, the German government seeks to enhance its military capability in the region.
Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT), Raytheon Technologies (NYSE: RTX) and Boeing (NYSE: BA) will serve as principal contractors on the possible FMS deal.
