HII (NYSE: HII) executives Matt Needy, Bryan Caccavale and Cullen Glass have assumed new leadership positions at the company’s Newport News Shipbuilding division as part of business transformation meant to optimize shipyard operations and speed up execution.
Needy, vice president of Navy programs at HII Newport News Shipbuilding and a 34-year shipyard veteran, has been promoted to VP and chief transformation officer, HII said Wednesday.
He will oversee the division’s strategy execution and business growth initiatives, including the company’s next-generation attack submarine SSN(X), risk opportunity management, operational health and enterprisewide continuous improvement efforts.
Caccavale, VP of material and manufacturing, has succeeded Needy as VP of Navy programs and will bring to the role his financial and leadership experience to support program execution in support of the ships developed and maintained by the division.
Glass, director of supply chain management, has taken the role of VP of supply chain management to oversee procurement, material logistics and outsourcing functions across Newport News.
He joined the shipbuilding company in 2009 as corporate director of enterprise transformation. Prior to HII, he worked at Honeywell (Nasdaq: HON) and held leadership positions in supply chain, planning, information technology, manufacturing, order management and logistics.
Julia Jones will continue to serve as VP of manufacturing as Newport News Shipbuilding restructures the material and manufacturing segments into two standalone divisions.
Newport News President Jennifer Boykin said the leadership changes will support business transformation efforts as the company works to deliver ships on schedule and on budget to enable the U.S. Navy to meet the changing requirements of the security environment worldwide.
