The U.S. Air Force is seeking information on potential industry sources with experience and capabilities to meet the requirements of the second iteration of the C-17 Aircraft Globemaster Operational Enhancements program.
The proposed C-17 Aircraft GLOBE 2.0 contract will include research and development efforts, 3600 and 3010 funded studies and trial kit installations to integrate new capabilities and address obsolescence-related issues.
The service said one of the efforts that the follow-on contract will cover is research and development work on a flight deck upgrade to address obsolencence issues associated with line replaceable units.
“This upgrade, at a baseline, would include new Core Integrated Processors (CIPs) with upgraded processing power, and a modular open systems architecture which would enable future capabilities. Other potential candidates include GPS M-Code Modernization, Beyond Line of Sight (BLOS), Continuous Concurrency Model (CCM), Software Build Package 5 (SWPB 5), and Large Aircraft Infrared Countermeasure (LAIRCM),” the sources sought notice reads.
Boeing (NYSE: BA) is the incumbent on the five-year C-17 Aircraft GLOBE indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract. The ordering period for this contract kicked off in December 2017 and will run through December 2022.
The existing contract covers infrastructure support services and the development of integrated hardware and software upgrades to the Boeing-built C-17 aircraft.
In September 2021, Boeing received a potential $24 billion contract to provide sustainment support services for the Air Force’s fleet of C-17 Globemaster III military transport aircraft.
