The Department of the Interior has released a draft solicitation for a potential 11-year, $1 billion contract that seeks to support DOI’s transition to a single hybrid enterprise cloud cluster.
Cloud Hosting Solutions III is a single-award, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-delivery contract that intends to “establish enterprise cloud services brokers to manage a portfolio of cloud computing, storage and application services across multiple vendor offerings,” according to the draft solicitation published Friday.
Through the CHS III IDIQ contract, the department’s office of the chief information officer and the U.S. Geological Survey expect to obtain a single virtual private center that would support requirements for cloud and managed services.
DOI expects the procurement effort to support the design, implementation and maintenance of a Virtual Private Cloud; enforce policies within the VPC environment; provide a targeted location for clients to host applications; offer various managed services that are optimized to operate in the partner cloud service provider environment; and provide a central financial control center over the entire contract award.
The department also expects the CSP or broker to provide DOI with the ability to buy “third-party” services from vendors that deliver services on a “pay as you go” or rental basis.
DOI said the mandates for data center consolidation and cloud migration were the main drivers of the proposed CHS III procurement effort, which has a five-year base term and three two-year option periods.
The department will host an industry day on June 15 and accept questions related to the draft solicitation through June 24.
