Tonya Wilkerson, deputy director of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA), was presented her 2022 Wash100 Award, the highest honor in government contracting (GovCon), by Executive Mosaic CEO Jim Garrettson on May 3rd during a recent visit to NGA Campus East in Springfield, VA.
Executive Mosaic was thrilled to recognize Tonya Wilkerson with her first Wash100 Award for her leadership as the new deputy director of the NGA and for driving critical GEOINT strategy and expansion to assist with U.S. national security efforts.
“Wilkerson is an accomplished intelligence professional with over three decades of experience in the intelligence community,” said former NGA Director and fellow two-time Wash100 winner Vice Adm. Robert Sharp. “Her vast experience and perspective will be of tremendous value to us during these rapidly evolving times.”
Tonya Wilkerson was appointed the new NGA deputy director back in Nov. 2021. Since taking over the role from fellow 2022 Wash100 recipient Dr. Stacey Dixon, Wilkerson has advocated for the NGA to partner with non-federal entities to develop future science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) and professionals to support the agency’s GEOINT mission.
“Specifically, NGA has worked to become more involved at the university level in the growth of STEM-based curriculum development, with an end goal of increasing our geospatial-trained talent pool in our college-aged students,” Tonya Wilkerson told an audience during the 2022 GEOINT Symposium back in April.
More recently, Wilkerson acted as a keynote speaker during the 2nd Annual IC Acquisition and Technology Innovation Summit, hosted by GovCon Wire Events, to discuss how the NGA is using a tool called the enterprise assessment framework to scale its IT workloads, input and mission capabilities as a significant shift in cloud migration and acquisitions strategies continue to influence the government sector.
“We’re looking at how we migrate our workloads to the cloud by getting a good understanding of our compute and storage requirements,” Wilkerson explained. “And we’re trying to do that early in the acquisition lifecycle, That really helps us to understand whether or not the data or a workload belongs in a data center or the cloud. It also helps us gauge what our needs are.”
Executive Mosaic congratulates the NGA’s Tonya Wilkerson for receiving her first Wash100 Award acknowledges more than three decades of contributions to our industry. Her longevity at the highest level of the GovCon sector has set the standard of innovation and success for the GovCon community.
