Stu Whitehead, deputy director for cyber and C4 integration at the Joint Chiefs of Staff’s J6 directorate, will keynote a Potomac Officers Club forum on April 7 to discuss the importance of data exchange between U.S. defense agencies and their mission partners.
Whitehead was appointed to his current position in April 2012 and oversees joint fires, close air support and combat identification mission requirements for the Department of Defense. He advises the JCS chairman on matters related to joint command and control, C2-ISR, warfighting and cyber systems.
The J6 directorate worked with DOD cyber professionals and U.S. military partners in multiple foreign countries during 2021 to demonstrate the performance of Secret and Below Releasable Environment software on the department’s Mission-Partner Environment.
MPE and SABRE are designed to help mission network users share information with each other when performing joint operations, according to a Nov. 29 DOD News report.
Defense officials said the integrated tool has a role to play in the Pentagon’s Joint All-Domain Command and Control strategy aimed at connecting sensors from military services via a single tactical network.
“In order for JADC2 to work, requirements — particularly at the enterprise level — have to be understood and documented in a way that so that we can describe our requirements to our acquisition counterparts in a more specific way than maybe what we had done previously,” Whitehead told Breaking Defense in a February interview.
He was commenting on a revised charter for the JADC2 Cross-Functional Team to gain the ability to work on behalf of the Joint Requirements Oversight Council to ensure capability plans align with the warfighting strategy.
