Kevin McCoy, a retired U.S. Navy vice admiral and former president of Canada-based Irving Shipbuilding, has been appointed to lead the government operations segment at BWX Technologies (NYSE: BWXT) as part of a reorganization move.
BWXT said Tuesday it updated the company’s reporting structure into government and commercial business sectors to highlight two core operations and help position itself for organizational efficiency.
The segment under McCoy consolidates the nuclear operations and services groups and will continue BWXT’s work as naval nuclear reactor production contractor for the Navy’s submarine and aircraft carrier fleets.
He will also oversee the company’s joint ventures that support U.S. government facility operators in environmental cleanup and nuclear operations management efforts.
McCoy spent 36 years at the Navy where his previous roles included commander of Naval Sea Systems Command and the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Maine.
As part of the realignment, John MacQuarrie, president of BWXT’s Canadian subsidiary since 2013 and a more than 28-year nuclear industry veteran, will lead the commercial operations segment formerly known as the company’s nuclear power group.
MacQuarrie will be responsible for nuclear power generation equipment design, manufacturing, commissioning and service functions in his new position.
