Executive Mosaic’s flagship GovCon Wire will feature Kevin Welsh, executive director of the Federal Aviation Administration’s Office of Environment and Energy, in an upcoming virtual fireside conversation to overview the agency’s mission to address climate change within the aviation sector.
The FAA unveiled in November its plan to implement policy measures to prepare sector infrastructure for the impacts of changing weather patterns. Some of the emission-reduction initiatives outlined in the “U.S. Aviation Climate Action Plan” document include developing efficient aircraft and engine technologies, producing sustainable aviation fuels and modernizing airport operations.
Welsh originally joined the agency in 2011 as a senior international adviser, then he worked as climate change negotiator and adviser at the State Department from 2014 to 2015 and as director of climate change and environment at the White House’s National Security Council from 2015 to 2017.
He returned to the FAA in November 2017 and is responsible for developing aviation-related environmental and energy policies and research, engineering and development efforts in his current position.
Earlier in his career, Welsh managed Airlines for America’s environmental affairs team and worked as an associate attorney for Paul Hastings’ real estate and environmental practice.
