Babcock-Led Industry Team to Back UK Maritime Electronic Warfare Program Under $134M Contract

A team of Babcock International Group, Elbit Systems’ U.K. subsidiary and QinetiQ has received a potential 13-year, $133.8 million contract to design, produce and deliver electronic warfare systems to the U.K. naval force.

The industry team will integrate, support and update the Royal Navy’s sensor systems, radar electronic support measures and EW command and control platforms under increment 1 of the Maritime Electronic Warfare System Integrated Capability program, Babcock said Tuesday.

The contract with the U.K. defense equipment and support also covers the provision of technical test and integration facilities and training systems to improve shared situational awareness and ensure force protection and informed command and decision support.

Babcock CEO David Lockwood said the company is pleased to support the Royal Navy through the MEWSIC program that seeks to deliver operational advantage to naval forces through EW capabilities.

“We will work closely with our collaboration partners and DE&S customer to enhance information dominance for the Royal Navy and its wider allies,” added Lockwood.

Babcock said the contract is expected to create manufacturing and software development jobs and all ship fits and other development activities will be carried out in the U.K.
