Potomac Officers Club to Feature James Geurts as Keynote Speaker at 2021 Navy Forum on May 12th

The Department of the Navy has developed sweeping new initiatives aimed at updating information technology (IT) and security practices. The Navy has also improved collaboration across operations, planning, acquisition sustainment and readiness. These strides for the Navy’s digital transformation must continue for the service to remain on the cutting edge of technology development.

During Potomac Officers Club’s 2021 Navy Forum, notable federal and industry leaders will meet to discuss initiatives, efficiencies and solutions that enable the Navy to remain the greatest naval power humanity has ever known

James Geurts, acting undersecretary of the Navy and 2020 Wash100 Award recipient, will deliver an opening keynote speech at the forum.

In his current capacity, Geurts acts as deputy and principal assistant to the secretary of the Navy, as well as the COO and CMO for the service branch.

Before serving as the Navy’s undersecretary, Geurts gathered over 30 years of extensive joint acquisition experience and served in all levels of acquisition leadership positions including Acquisition Executive Program executive officer and program manager of Major Defense Acquisition Programs.

When he was Navy’s acquisition executive, Geurts was responsible for an annual budget in excess of $100 billion, ensuring procurement of platforms, systems and technologies designed to enhance the readiness and operability of servicemembers working around the globe. Geurts also served as an officer in the U.S. Air Force, he retired from active service after 22 years.

The Forum will also feature Vice Adm. Mike Moran, acting undersecretary of the Navy will deliver an opening keynote address. Additionally, an expert panel featuring Capt. Benjamin Van Buskirk, Jane Rathbun and Capt. Matt Farr of the Navy will discuss collaboration as well as the service branch’s agility to deliver capabilities.
