The National Institute of Standards and Technology has indicated its intent to negotiate a purchase order for software company Prometheus Computing to help the agency conduct further research into blockchain technology.
NIST said in a notice posted on SAM .gov the sole-source collaborative research support contract will have a six-month base period along with a six-month option.
The agency is seeking assistance to complete an authority to operate process for a blockchain proof of concept implementation effort that supports a governmentwide grant tracking system.
Prometheus has supported a NIST-led program to create distributed ledger technology over the past year as part of a competitively awarded task order.
NIST determined that no other company possesses technical knowledge of the ongoing research work or has the ability to support continuity of the effort.
