Brandon Wales: CISA’s New Campaign Aims to Help Public, Private Sectors Defend Against Ransomware

The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency has launched a campaign to promote the use of cybersecurity tools and best practices to increase ransomware threat awareness across the public and private sectors.

CISA said Thursday it aims to bring together agencies and companies to cut the risk of ransomware to pandemic response and K-12 educational organizations through the Reduce the Risk of Ransomware Campaign.

“Anyone can be the victim of ransomware, and so everyone should take steps to protect their systems,” said Brandon Wales, acting director of CISA.

Wales added the agency plans to collaborate with government and industry partners to help organizations understand the security threat and exchange information.

The agency plans to utilize its social media presence to provide guidance on ransomware attacks and offers fact sheets, training activities and alerts through its website.

CISA previously partnered with the FBI, Department of Health and Human Services and  Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center to produce the online resources about ransomware prevention.
