Pritesh Parekh, chief trust and security officer at Dell Technologies’ (NYSE: DELL) Virtustream business, said agencies looking to migrate to the cloud should implement cloud-native platforms and a unified approach to security as they temporarily operate in a hybrid environment.
Parekh wrote that agencies that are transitioning to the cloud while running some workloads in on-premises data centers should consider using cloud-based managed services.
“Migrating, managing and securing workloads in the cloud require specific expertise that differs significantly from a data center,” he said. “To resolve this skills gap, agencies should consider the advantages of cloud-based managed services, which can significantly accelerate the benefits of cloud and help unify security programs.”
He said adopting cloud is essential to information technology modernization because it provides agencies the flexibility to adapt to rapidly evolving compliance requirements, user expectations, workloads and fluctuating environments.
Agencies should secure their data and application as they migrate to the cloud as part of their IT modernization efforts and Parekh said they should begin by establishing a “trusted relationship with a mission-critical cloud partner.”
“Successful cloud deployments hinge on creating partnerships with cloud providers that are based on the tenets of trust: security, compliance, privacy and transparency,” he added.
