Former CIA Official Barbara Stevens Named CEO of SOSi’s Exovera Subsidiary

Barbara Stevens, former chief of data science at the CIA, has been appointed CEO of SOS International's Exovera subsidiary, SOSi announced Wednesday.

“Dr. Stevens has more than three decades of experience building and leading complex data science programs for the U.S. Intelligence Community,” said Julian Setian, president and CEO of SOSi and 2020 Wash100 Award recipient.

During her 35-year CIA career, she has established and directed complex data science programs and provided deep expertise in applying big data analytics at the operational and analytical levels of IC.

“Her expertise and insights will help us optimize the big data solutions we are developing to accelerate their adoption and ease their integration into government analytic workflows and agency operations,” Setian added.

Stevens has received multiple awards, including the Distinguished Career Intelligence Medal, for her service at the agency. She also worked as an industry consultant, where she assisted government agencies and contractors navigate change management, big data analytics, cloud migration and advance their corporate diversity initiatives.

With Stevens’ appointment, SOSi will advance its growth strategy to augment its service portfolio with artificial intelligence and machine learning-enabled solutions. Earlier in the year, SOSi acquired NorthStar Systems and announced a strategic partnership with UiPath to support its customers’ digital modernization efforts.

Setian also took a strategic position in AppTek to advance automatic speech recognition, machine translation and natural language understanding offerings. Exovera’s team has worked to integrate the new tools to create a suite of proprietary open-source and automated language solutions for defense, intelligence and law enforcement customers.

“We view Exovera as a key discriminator in the government technology solutions market,” said John Avalos, SOSi’s chief operating officer. “Dr. Stevens will help us leverage SOSi’s experience in delivering mission-enabling software, intelligence analysis, and language services to develop new deep learning software and tools that address emerging customer needs.”
