A Bechtel subsidiary will continue to build components for nuclear ship propulsion systems under a $104.5M contract modification with the U.S. Navy, the Department of Defense said Friday.
Bechtel Plant Machinery Inc. will receive the full amount of the modification award and the Department of Defense said Friday the funds will not expire at the end of the government's current fiscal year.
In late November, BPMI received three contracts worth potentially $1.76B combined to fabricate and install naval nuclear propulsion technology in the service branch's aircraft carrier and submarine reactors.
Ninety-nine percent of contract work will occur in Monroeville, Pennsylvania, and the remaining 1 percent in Schenectady, New York, with an unspecified completion date.
The Navy will use its shipbuilding and conversion and other procurement funds on the award.
