Serco Inc.’s Dave Dacquino Asks GovCon Execs to Support Transitioning Vets via Labor Dept’s Apprenticeship Pilot Program

Dave Dacquino, chairman and CEO of Serco Inc. and a previous Wash100 winner, is challenging executives in the GovCon industry to commit to providing employment opportunities for transitioning service members by participating in the Department of Labor’s veteran apprenticeship pilot program.

DOL’s pilot program has a team of apprenticeship placement counselors who help transitioning veterans pursue careers in the civilian sector. These counselors work with employers to help match military retirees to apprenticeship opportunities offered across the U.S.

The program, which is now being offered at eight military installations, provides paid on-the-job training to allow veterans to apply the technical skills they acquired during their military career to help meet civilian workplace needs.

More than 100 companies have already signed up for the program. Some of the companies that have offered apprenticeship opportunities to military veterans are Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT), Amazon (Nasdaq: AMZN), Wells Fargo (NYSE: WFC), DCI Technology Solutions, Calibre Systems and Excel Electric.

Dacquino said in a letter to executives that he and his fellow CEOs want GovCon companies to commit to hiring at least 200 transitioning vets through the DOL pilot program.

Haywood Talcove, CEO, Government, LexisNexis Risk Solutions and LexisNexis Special Services and a 2020 Wash100 award winner; Chris Brady, president of General Dynamics‘ (NYSE: GD) mission systems business and a 2020 Wash100 awardee; and Doug Wagoner, president and CEO of LMI and a previous Wash100 recipient, joined Dacquino in the call to GovCon companies to employ veterans.

If you want your company to take part in supporting transitioning veterans through the DOL pilot program, you can send your inquiries to the apprenticeship pilot team at [email protected] or [email protected].
