Dennis Via, an executive vice president of Booz Allen Hamilton (NYSE: BAH) and a retired U.S. Army general, has been appointed to the board of directors at San Francisco-based data analytics company Splunk (Nasdaq: SPLK).
Via oversees security cooperation functions within the joint combatant business under Booz Allen's global defense segment and supports its defense, homeland security and intelligence customers as a defense fellow, Splunk said Thursday.
The 36-year veteran served as commanding general of U.S. Army Materiel Command — an organization responsible for the branch's logistics, maintenance and global supply chain efforts — before his move to industry.
His military career also includes prior roles as chief information officer, signal, commander, engineering and logistics work associated with cybersecurity and communications systems.
He is a board member at Milliken & Co. and Capital Partners for Education, and holds active membership at the Association of the U.S. Army, the Council on Foreign Relations and the Armed Forces Communications Electronics Association.
Doug Merritt, president and CEO of Splunk, said he believes Via's professional experience will help the company accelerate its impact on public sector customers.
"Via is a technology luminary within the government, and knows this world inside and out,” Merritt added.
Splunk aims to help customers analyze and generate insights from big data with the company's Data-to-Everything Platform.
