The Department of Defense issued Friday details on acquisition program cost changes for the December 2019 reporting period and said that its acquisition cost estimate for 86 programs covered by Selected Acquisition Reports for the period was $2.02T.
DoD said Friday total program costs for the U.S. Air Force rose 1.5 percent to $246.7B, up from $243.1B.
Some of those Air Force acquisition programs that saw cost changes are the National Security Space Launch program, the MQ-9 Reaper unmanned aircraft system and the F-15 Eagle Passive Active Warning Survivability System.
The U.S. Army’s total program costs dropped $1.05B and initiatives that experienced cost changes are the CH-47F Block II helicopter, Joint Light Tactical Vehicle and the Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System/Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System Alternative Warhead.
The U.S. Navy saw its total program costs increase $13.75B. The service’s amphibious combat vehicle family of vehicles reported a 148.9 percent jump in program costs driven by an increase in the number of vehicles as a result of the merger of ACV 1.1 and 1.2 programs.
DoD noted in the report that its total program costs dropped 6.33 percent to $410B. The overall acquisition cost of the F-35 fighter jet program declined by $19B in base year 2012 dollars and decreased by $30.7B in then-year dollars.
