David Whelan, former vice president of engineering and chief technologist at Boeing (NYSE: BA), has been named senior VP and chief scientist of Cubic (NYSE: CUB).
He will lead the development of product line strategies and work with the Cubic executive team to grow technology offerings and drive business growth, the company said Monday.
His career has included contributions to quantum technology research projects across computing, sensing, atomic clock and GPS applications.
At Boeing, Whelan provided budget guidance for the company's new product research and development efforts, crafted growth strategies and managed profit and loss functions.
He previously held leadership roles in the tactical and sensor technology offices at the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency and currently teaches electrical and computer engineering as a professor at the University of California, San Diego, as well as chairs the board of quantum sensing company AOSense.
Bradley Feldmann, chairman, president and CEO of Cubic and a past Wash100 inductee, said Whelan brings technical expertise and multidiscipline program experience as the company aims to meet strategic objectives under its NextCUBIC initiative.
