Textron's (NYSE: TXT) Bell subsidiary has been awarded a $272.2M contract by the U.S. Navy to build a total of 12 AH-1Z Viper and UH-1Y Venom aircraft for Czech Republic.
The international customer will receive four attack helicopters and eight utility helos under the foreign military sales deal, the Department of Defense said Friday.
Work will run through November 2023 in Fort Worth and Amarillo, Texas. Naval Air Systems Command issued the sole-source contract and will immediately obligate the award's full amount.
According to the Navy, AH-1Z and UH-1Y share a parts commonality of roughly 85 percent. The Viper is designed with four-bladed composite and tail rotor systems and an integrated glass cockpit while the Venom is equipped with an integrated fire control system and can support different weapon configurations.
