BAE Systems has acquired Techmodal, a Bristol-based data company with approximately 120 employees and 30 associates, to strengthen technology and data portfolio. Techmodal became a wholly-owned subsidiary of the British contractor on Aug. 19, BAE announced Wednesday.
“Techmodal’s data expertise is highly complementary to our own digital capabilities and aligns well with our customers’ digital needs and ambitions. This acquisition allows us to work together to provide further support to the UK’s armed forces’ digital transformation as well as bringing the benefits of leading edge data-driven decision making to all of our customers,” said David Mitchard, managing director of BAE’s maritime services business.
Techmodal holds multiple long-term contracts with the UK defense ministry in support of the country's armed forces. Techmodal’s expertise will add to BAE’s existing digital, data and technical service offerings.
The ministry launched the Defence Digital initiative in 2019 to increase digital capabilities across the British military. BAE seeks to support the armed forces in this transformation through the acquisition.
Techmodal’s capabilities will bolster the digital and data services BAE currently provides to the U.K. navy, including data analytics, data science, digital transformation and the Data Integration Platform, a collaborative system that provides the ability to view, manage and exploit data, allowing the efficient management of complex modern warships.
