Mark Peters, director of the Department of Energy’s Idaho National Laboratory, will join Battelle as executive vice president for lab operations.
Peters will work with INL and other national labs within Battelle’s portfolio to advance science and technology initiatives and facilitate community engagement and operations, INL announced Thursday.
He will help with the transition once INL finds a new lab director.
Peters joined INL in 2015 and has been responsible for the management of the national lab in support of its environmental science and technology, national security and nuclear energy missions. He has served as a senior adviser to the DOE on nuclear waste policy, nuclear energy technology and other research and development initiatives.
He previously worked at Argonne National Laboratory as associate lab director for energy and global security and served as senior scientist to the director of the office of civilian radioactive waste management at Los Alamos National Lab.
Peters is a member of several organizations, including the American Geophysical Union, Geological Society of America, Geochemical Society, American Nuclear Society and the Mineralogical Society of America.
