LMI has become a member of a Department of Defense-funded national institute that aims to equip domestic manufacturers with digital tools and approaches to boost productivity.
The MxD, formerly called Digital Manufacturing and Design Innovation Institute, works with approximately 300 partners from the commercial and academic sectors to address military system production challenges, LMI said Thursday.
Supply chain resiliency, digital engineering and cybersecurity are among the focus areas of the Chicago-based institute.
"LMI offers practical understanding of digital engineering concepts that can inform the small- and medium-sized firms that are critical to a secure, resilient and efficient supply chain," said Mike Yucuis, government engagement manager for MxD.
Michelle Kordell, director of acquisition and lifecycle logistics and technical DNA services at LMI, said the company seeks to apply lessons learned from its experience using model-based technical information to help sustain defense platforms.
