Huntington Ingalls Industries (NYSE: HII) has secured a $145M contract modification to obtain long-lead-time materials necessary for its Ingalls Shipbuilding division to build the U.S. Navy's LHA 9 amphibious assault ship.
HII said Wednesday the award brings the total advance LHA 9 construction project funds to $350M.
“This advance procurement contract will help protect the health of our supplier base and strengthen our efforts to efficiently modernize the nation’s amphibious fleet as we continue to build amphibious ships for the Navy,” said Ingalls Shipbuilding President Brian Cuccias.
Ingalls Shipbuilding delivered the first ship of the Navy's America class in 2014 and the second vessel in that class, designated LHA 7, earlier this year. Construction of LHA 8 is underway at the Pascagoula, Miss., shipyard.
