Tom Foster, a more than 35-year nuclear industry veteran, will assume the role of chief operating officer of Amentum’s nuclear and environment strategic business unit on March 1.
Foster will be responsible for all nuclear operations as part of contracts with the Department of Energy covering radioactive waste management, remediation and demolition of Cold War and radioactive waste facilities in the U.S. and other locations in Canada, Asia and Europe, Amentum said Wednesday.

His accomplishments at the U.S. DOE’s Savannah River and Hanford sites and the United Kingdom’s Sellafield nuclear site indicate his exceptional pedigree for this important role in our company,” said John Vollmer, CEO of Amentum and a 2020 Wash100 award winner.
Foster previously served as president and project manager at Savannah River Remediation. He is former chief decommissioning officer at the Sellafield site in the U.K. and previous director of remediation for the River Corridor project at the Hanford site in Washington.
Amentum launched in early February as an independent technical and engineering services company based in Germantown, Md., following the acquisition of AECOM’s (NYSE: ACM) management services business by affiliates of private equity firms American Securities and Lindsay Goldberg.
