India OKs $2.12B Sikorksy MH-60R Helicopter Procurement

Jeff Brody

The Indian government has cleared an order for Sikorsky-built multimission helicopters through a potential  $2.12B foreign military sales agreement with the U.S. government, Defense News reported Thursday.

India wants to buy 24 MH-60R Seahawk units equipped with AGM-114 Hellfire air-to-surface missiles, launchers, multimode radars and Mark 54 anti-submarine torpedoes.

According to the report, the Indian navy will replace its Sea King helicopter platform with the MH60R to support anti-submarine warfare, amphibious assault, intelligence gathering, surveillance and search-and-rescue missions.

An official of the country’s defense ministry told the publication that a contract for the MH-60R purchase will be inked after India and the U.S. complete cost negotiations.
