Executive Mosaic is honored to present Al Whitmore, president of the intelligence and security sector at BAE Systems’ U.S. subsidiary, as an inductee into the 2020 edition of the Wash100 Award for pushing for innovation and leading organizational efforts to support customers’ national security missions.
Whitmore has won the Wash100 Award for the three consecutive years. Executive Mosaic recognized Whitmore in 2019 for his efforts to grow BAE Systems Inc.’s I&S business through major contract awards and pushing the unit to make strides in emerging technology. His efforts to those missions have continued into 2020 and have secured him another Wash100 Award.
The BAE US arm continues to deliver military intelligence to defense planners, policymakers and warfighters worldwide to the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA). For over three decades, the company has provided its services to the agency under various contracts, including a prime position on a current $17 billion Solutions for Intelligence Analysis 3 (SIA 3).
The company’s presence in the intelligence and security sectors is prevalent in the government contracting (GovCon) industry. As I&S sector lead, Whitmore’s influence has helped the company to make many contributions of consequence to the industry.
The U.S. Army awarded the company a $437 million task order to provide data-based open source support for the service branch’s Intelligence and Security Command. Under the task order, BAE will deliver timely, objective, and cogent information to mission-critical programs in the face of evolving threats and the continuous increase in the volume and sources of open source data.
In August, BAE established a robotics operations center, in partnership with UiPath, to support the high-volume data processing tasks of national security missions at U.S. defense and intelligence agencies.
The center continues to work to utilize robotic process automation software to help with repetitive tasks in order to allow humans to spend their time on more important duties. In addition to providing customizable software robots, BAE will also teach its government clients how to deploy them effectively and at the scale required.
BAE also opened an innovation hub at the Georgia Cyber Center in Augusta, Ga. to expand its support for cybersecurity programs and its workforce in the region. The new office marks an extension of its business operations in the city.

Most recently, Ravi Ravichandran was appointed vice president and chief technology officer for the Intelligence and Security sector for BAE Systems on Jan. 29th. Whitmore expressed his excitement for Ravichandran to bring his business and technical experience to the company.
Under their collective leadership, BAE’s capabilities will expand to improve efficiency in cloud, artificial intelligence and machine learning, enterprise IT modernization and data analytics as the company advances systems integration capabilities in 2020.
