A subsidiary of Comtech Telecommunications (Nasdaq: CMTL) has secured a potential 10-year, $211M contract from Cubic (NYSE: CUB) to manufacture equipment for the U.S. Marine Corps’ next-generation tropospheric scatter platform designed to transmit and receive microwave signals.
Comtech Systems will deliver troposcatter terminals to Cubic’s mission solutions business for test and evaluation under a $13.4M initial order.
The two companies aim to provide the service branch with a troposcatter system that offers high-bandwidth capacity and reduces size, weight and power requirements by almost 90 percent.
Fred Kornberg, president and CEO of Comtech Telecommunications, said the company’s technology will work to help military users communicate in the battlefield.
Cubic won a $325M indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract in October 2019 to build, test, field and sustain 172 troposcatters for the Marines.
