Verizon (NYSE: VZ) has secured a potential 13-year, $341M task order to support the Internal Revenue Services information technology modernization effort, FCW reported Thursday.
Nancy Sieger, acting chief information officer at IRS, said the task order awarded through the General Services Administrations $50B Enterprise Infrastructure Solutions telecommunications contract vehicle will support the IRS’ client-facing services.
She told the publication the EIS vehicle is for the backbone of the tax agencys internet and communications systems, which are critical to the IRS effort to further develop a set of client-facing capabilities.
The telecoms backbone “supports our contact centers, our IRS.gov website and our internal capabilities. It’s a major component of our modernization plan,” Sieger said.
