VMware (NYSE: VMW) has wrapped up its acquisition of cybersecurity firm Carbon Black and will launch a security business unit as a result of the transaction.

VMware said Tuesday Patrick Morley, CEO of Carbon Black, will serve as general manager of the new business unit and directly report to Sanjay Poonen, chief operating officer for customer operations at VMware.

Poonen said Carbon Black brings to VMware an endpoint and workload security offering featuring an artificial intelligence-powered data lake, lightweight agent and a cloud-native architecture.

œThe Carbon Black platform, along with VMware NSX, VMware Workspace ONE, VMware Secure State and our future innovations, will deliver a highly-differentiated intrinsic security platform across network, endpoint, workload, identity, cloud and analytics, Poonen added.

VMware agreed to buy Carbon Black for $26 in cash per share in August, reflecting an enterprise value of $2.1B. The company used existing cash and short-term borrowing capacity to fund the deal.
