Northrop Assembles Industry Team to Support Air Force Ground-Based ICBM Program

Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC) has formed an industry team that will support the development of an intercontinental ballistic missile weapon system for the U.S. Air Force.

Greg Manuel, vice president of the Ground-Based Strategic Deterrent enterprise leader at Northrop, said in a statement published Monday the nationwide GBSD team assembled in the past four years is committed to delivering an ICBM capability to the service branch on schedule.

The team includes:

  • Aerojet Rocketdyne (NYSE: AJRD)
  • BRPH
  • Clark Construction
  • Collins Aerospace
  • General Dynamics (NYSE: GD)
  • Honeywell (NYSE: HON)
  • L3Harris Technologies (NYSE: LHX)
  • Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT)
  • Parsons (NYSE: PSN)
  • Textron Systems

The Air Force issued a request for proposals for the GBSD program™s engineering and manufacturing development phase in July and expects to award the contract in the third quarter of 2020.

Northrop was one of the two firms that won separate contracts in 2017 to perform technology maturation and risk reduction work for the GBSD program.

In August, the company kicked off construction of a facility near Hill Air Force Base in Utah to serve as its future GBSD program office. The facility is expected to open in mid-2020 and generate more than 2K jobs in the state.
